Dementia UK

At a glance
Dementia UK is the UK's specialist dementia nursing charity. Its mission is to ensure that no one faces dementia alone by providing expert support to people living with dementia and the families who care for them. At the heart of the organisation's work are Admiral Nurses, specialist dementia nurses who help families navigate the practical, emotional and clinical challenges that dementia can bring.
Advancig the field together
Improving the quality of life for people living with dementia in addition to other health conditions depends on many forms of leadership and innovation. While the KJCF Quest Fellowships support researchers exploring some of the field's most complex questions, Dementia UK is helping transform the support available to people living with dementia and the families who care for them. Through its nationally recognised Admiral Nurse model, the charity combines specialist clinical expertise, workforce development and direct family support in ways that can create lasting benefits for communities across the UK.
Our partnership reflects a shared commitment to improving lives affected by neurological conditions. By supporting an organisation with deep expertise, strong evidence of impact and an ambitious vision for expanding specialist dementia nursing, we have an opportunity to contribute to progress in the field through a complementary but equally important pathway.
Current Initiative: Expanding access to Admiral Nurse Services
We are supporting Dementia UK's efforts to establish new Admiral Nurse services in communities and hospitals across the UK.
Admiral Nurses provide expert clinical guidance and support for people living with dementia and the families who care for them. They help families understand and manage the challenges associated with dementia, navigate complex health and care systems, plan for the future and access the practical support available to them. They also work closely with healthcare professionals and services, helping to improve coordination of care and support across different settings.
The partnership will support the development of new services in both community and hospital environments. In community settings, Admiral Nurses work alongside primary care, memory services and integrated care teams to help people remain well supported at home and reduce the likelihood of reaching crisis point. In hospitals, they support patients and families through admission, discharge and transitions of care while helping healthcare professionals build confidence and expertise in dementia care.
A distinctive feature of Dementia UK's model is its focus on sustainability. New services are developed in partnership with local organisations that gradually assume responsibility for funding the roles, helping ensure that specialist dementia nursing remains available to local communities for years to come. Through this approach, the partnership seeks not only to support families facing dementia today, but also to strengthen the long-term availability of specialist dementia care across the UK.
