KJCF Quest Fellowships in Brain Health and Multimorbidity
Strengthening research leadership to unlock better understanding, care and opportunity for people living with long-term health conditions where one is brain-related.
Programme overview
The quest for discovery
The KJCF Quest Fellowships in Brain Health and Multimorbidity are grounded in the belief that discovery is a journey. We use the word “Quest” to reflect the curiosity and persistence required to explore brain health in the context of other long-term conditions, and to improve life for people living with these complex and interconnected challenges.
The programme is delivered in partnership with universities across the United Kingdom, each of which designs and manages its own post-doctoral fellowship.
By strengthening research leadership and encouraging cross-disciplinary thinking, the fellowships aim to influence how complex long-term conditions are studied and treated, contributing over time to better care, more integrated approaches and improved quality of life.

How we work
We believe innovation opens new possibilities for people living with complex health challenges
Motivations Behind the KJCF Quest Fellowships in Brain Health and Multimorbidity
Brain health is rising in urgency
Brain-related conditions are increasing globally and in the United Kingdom particularly as populations age. Their impact extends beyond individuals, placing growing pressure on families, care systems and society.
Conditions intersect and overlap
Brain-related issues often coexist with cardiovascular, metabolic and other long-term conditions. Addressing them in isolation risks overlooking how these interactions shape outcomes and care.
A window for collaboration
Advances in research and data, particularly in the United Kingdom, create new opportunities to connect disciplines and rethink how interconnected conditions are studied and addressed.
Leadership shapes what comes next
Post-doctoral researchers are at a pivotal stage in defining future research directions. By supporting them, we help strengthen the leadership and innovation needed to increase attention on people facing complex health challenges.
Core information
Our goals
1.
Enable talented post-doctoral researchers to build sustainable and influential careers in research leadership.
2.
Advance a more integrated view of brain health by exploring its connection to wider long-term conditions.
3.

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
How do researchers apply for a KJCF Quest Fellowship?
The fellowships are administered by our partner universities. Each institution will launch its own open call, appoint fellows and serve as the primary point of contact for applicants.
How do universities apply to host a KJCF Quest Fellowship?
We have completed our first cycle of partnerships with three selected universities, and new partnerships are by invitation only, following our own research and due diligence.
Will the KJCF Quest Fellowships focus on topics beyond brain health and multimorbidity?
Brain health and multimorbidity are the focus of the current funding cycle. Following careful review and analysis, future cycles may explore other pressing topics with strong potential to generate meaningful social impact.
We welcome suggestions from universities and research-led organisations about pressing, under-resourced topics with strong potential for social impact that the KJCF Quest Fellowships could explore in future cycles.
Who decides the research focus and appoints the fellows?
Academic direction, recruitment and selection are the responsibility of the host universities. Fellows are appointed through each university’s own academic procedures, and research agendas are set by the appointed fellows and their institutions. The Foundation remains in dialogue with partners but does not assess, appoint or manage individual research projects.
